Marvelous Maine Invitational Week 4 Hobbies and Crafts
I searched several subjects just playing with the features and discovering what was there. The Outdoors and Nature category had lots of choices and I narrowed it to Hiking and Trails. I wasn't all that successful at finding trails for hiking in any areas fairly close to me, but there were many choices overall for other more specific topics specific to particular levels and areas of hiking. I am a huge dog lover so also did some searching through Home and Leisure, specifically Dog Breeds. This category had much to offer. When I checked out the Projects tab I found the things listed were not applicable to my specific subject search however. Maybe that would require more investigation. I looked at the Help link and found out that "Help" is available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Week 3 Newspapers and Maine Newstand
I had kind of a difficult time using the Maine Newspapers features for this week's assignment. I think it is just a matter of playing with it a bit more to iron out the kinks however. Once I became oriented I was able to find some very interesting and varied articles on the topic I chose, 1970's Rock and Roll. I was NOT successful in creating an alert to let me know when something new is added that fits my search criteria. Not sure what I was doing wrong there. I did read a cohort's blog and left a comment, but when trying to publish it I just kept receiving the blurred letters to type in. It just kept telling me that I was not entering the correct code, so I don't think the comment posted. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong would be welcome!

The Boss Fan 1 Post #2/Week 2
I chose to complete Discovery Exercise 2A Britannica School Edition. I am astounded at the multitude and variety of information available here. In the Britannica Elementary area I chose to search for the habitat of a Zebra, which I found out is various parts of Africa. I was especially interested to check out the the Middle School area because this is the area that I teach. I found there is just as much variety of information with written articles, videos and a continuous scrolling picture show of zebras in various situations which was particularly interesting and well done. In the High School area there was also an amazing amount of information, including journal and magazine articles. Exploring through the "Workspace" feature reminded me of the use of "Portaportal." I use this often to help direct students to articles to be used in researching information for projects. My interpretation was that "Workspace" worked in a similar way. It seems like it would be very valuable.

Blog Post #1 Marvelous Maine Invitational
I have never created or used a blog before. I have now created my blog but am not sure if it will post to the correct blog user list. I guess I am still unclear as to how the blog process works, even though I did watch the brief tutorial. I am excited to begin using and experimenting with the online State Library Resources. After taking the survey I realize that I have almost no idea of what services are offered. I am extremely excited about the possibility of using these resources with my 6th Grade Social Studies students!
